Wooden fishing pole

The easiest fishing rod that you can craft at the beginning in terraria is the wooden fishing pole. This fishing pole has the lowest fishing power among the fishing rods in terraria that is 5%. To craft a wooden fishing pole, you need only 8 wood.

You can get wood by chopping off the trees. When you have the ingredient that means 8 wood, you can craft your fishing pole at a workbench.

You can sell a wooden fishing pole for 60 copper. I suggest you use a reinforced fishing pole if you are thinking to use a wooden fishing pole because it is more powerful than the wooden fishing pole and it is also easy to craft.

Reinforced fishing pole

The reinforced fishing pole is also not rare. But it is better than the wooden fishing pole because it has 15% fishing power. So it is more than 10% higher than the wooden fishing pole. To craft a reinforced fishing pole, you need only 8 iron bars.

You can craft it at an iron or a lead anvil. There are two types of iron bars in terraria called iron and lead. If your world doesn’t have iron, you can use lead bars to craft this fishing pole.

You can find iron or lead by mining underground. When you have at least 24 iron ore you can make 8 iron bars at a furnace. Now you have 8 iron bars, now you can craft a reinforced fishing pole at an anvil.

You can buy an anvil for the merchant NPC or you can make it by using 5 iron or lead bars at a work bench. Also, you can sell it for 24 silver if you want. This is my choice if I’m going fishing early on the game. That means before I beat my first boss in terraria.

Fisher of souls

Fisher of sols is the next best fishing pole after the reinforced fishing pole. It has 20% fishing power. So it has 5% higher fishing power than the reinforced fishing pole. To craft this fishing pole you need 8 demonite bars and an anvil as the crafting station.

Demonite bars are rare than the other ores that you get in pre-hardmode. You can find demonite ore when you are mining at a corruption biome. Also, you can easily get them without mining underground.

Only you need to is beat the eye of chthulu and it will drop demonite ore as the loot. Take your demonite ore to the furnace (when you have at least 24 demonite ore) and make 8 demonite bars and craft your fishing pole at the anvil.
You can sell Fisher of souls rod for 2 gold and 40 silver.

Fleshcatcher

As the next best fishing rod after the fisher of souls, Fleshcatcher has 22% fishing power. It has 2% higher fishing power than the fisher of souls.

To craft a fleshcatcher you need 8 crimtane bars and an anvil as the crafting station. Crimtane ore is similar to demonite ore.

If you have a corruption biome in your world you can get demonite ore. If you have a crimson biome in your world you can get crimtane ore. To find crimtane ore you can beat the eye of chathulu or mine underground at a crimson biome (it only works if your world has crimson biome).

When you have at least 24 ore you can craft 8 bars and then make your fleshcatcher fishing rod at an anvil.
You can sell this for 3 gold 12 silver coins.

Chum caster rod

Chum caster rod is the next best fishing rod after the fleshcatcher. This fishing rod has 25% fishing power. It has 3% higher fishing power than the fleshcatcher.

Not like the other fishing rod that I mentioned before, this fishing rod is can’t craft using any materials. This is the only fishing rod, among the fishing rods in terraria that is dropped by enemies.

This fishing rod is dropped by wandering eye fishes and zombie mermen. These enemies will appear when you are fishing during the blood moon.

Also, they are pre-hardmode enemies. There is a 12.5% chance to drop this from these two enemies.
You can sell this for 2 gold coins.

Scarab fishing rod

Scarab fishing rod has 30% fishing power and it has 5% higher fishing power than the chum caster rod.
This is the only fishing rod among the fishing rods in terraria that can be only obtain from crates. The only way to find a scarab fishing rod is from an oasis crate and mirage crate.

You can only find these two crates when you are fishing in the oasis mini-biome. you can’t get a mirage crate until you enter the hardmode.

Fiberglass fishing pole

Fiberglass fishing pole is one of the best fishing poles that you can use for pre-hardmode fishing. Fiberglass fishing pole has 30% fishing power and it can be found in jungle crates, living mahogany trees, and jungle shrines.

You can find jungle crates by fishing in the jungle. It is a pre-hardmode crate and you have a 19% chance to get a fiberglass fishing pole from it.

You can find jungle shrines at the underground of the jungle biome. You can easily recognize a jungle shrine because it has a green torch and gold bricks.

In that place, you will able to see one chest. You have a 6.53% chance to get a fiberglass fishing pole from it.

The living mahogany tree also belongs to the jungle biome. You can find this large tree in the underground of the jungle biome. If you can find a chest in the tree you have a 6.53% chance to get the fishing pole

Mechanic’s rod

Mechanic’s rod is sold by the mechanic NPC. It has 35% fishing power and it is only sold by the mechanic during the waning gibbous moon, waning crescent moon, waxing crescent moon, and waxing gibbous moon.

If you are playing terraria on the console you can buy it only in the waning crescent moon.

You can’t get the mechanic NPC until you beat the skeletron boss. After you beat skeletron you can go to the dungeon and find the mechanic NPC.
You can sell a mechanic’s rod for 4 gold coins.

Sitting duck’s fishing pole

Sitting duck’s fishing pole has 40 % fishing power and it is randomly sold by the traveling merchant NPC after you beat the skeltron boss.

Traveling merchant NPC arrive randomly in the day time (4.30 am – 12.pm) and he leaves on the same day.

Also, he spawns near houses that if there are at least 2 NPC’s in it. So He won’t spawn until you have at least 2 NPC’s. You can buy a sitting duck’s fishing pole from the traveling merchant for 35 gold coins.
I suggest this is the best fishing pole that you can get in pre-hardmode. You can sell this fishing rod for 7 gold coins.

Hotline fishing hook

The hotline fishing hook has 45% fishing power. You can get this fishing rod from the angler in hardmode after you complete 25 angler quests. You have a 1/75 chance to get it when you have these requirements.

Angler is a town NPC that gives you daily quests. You can find him on the ocean. You can sell this for 10 gold.

Golden fishing rod

The golden fishing rod is the best fishing rod among the fishing rods in terraria.

This has 50% fishing power and you can get it only as an angler reward after you complete 75 quests.
